Hiatus

Dear Sustainable Seasons Fans,

It has been pleasure to run the program for the the last two years, unfortunately I know longer have the time to devote to the project that it deserves. I have returned to school, and until I'm finished, I'm afraid SS may be on bit of a hiatus. BioBob has gone on to a new home (where he will still be running off of bio-based fuels), and I have converted to strictly pedal power for the moment. So, in the spirit of the project, I have actually reduced my footprint further while I'm not actively promoting alternative fuels to compensate for my enlarged energy usage. I will try to post links to some friends' projects that are in the same arena as SS, so that you can still know who to support. Until more time comes available, keep up the good work and we'll see you on the slopes.

Better Late Than Never

Just for quick update, we would like to wish Sustainable Seasons friend John Symms best of luck in the Nippon Open in Japan this week. Sorry for such lapses in content, there has been too much snow in the Wasatch for us to have any time leftover after skiing. On the staying green note, our tip for this post is for everyone to go out and look at your tires, see if they are properly iflated and wearing correctly. If you are rolling on underinflated tires, not only are wasting gas, but your car isn't as safe as it could be. Plus it makes your tires last longer, so go fill up those tires dummys. Thats all for now.

Sad Day for Skiing

As most of you probably already know, local Wasatch resident Billy Poole passed away this tuesday from injuries sustained while filming in the Wolverine Cirque area. I didn't know Billy that well, but well enough to know that he was a stand up guy and loved doing what he did. One of the stongest skiers you would ever meet, I hope Billy is tearing it up somewhere right now. Rest in peace buddy, and to everyone else, be careful out there. Below is a little bit of Billy's skiing to speak for itself:

Mammoth Quest

So I headed down to Mammoth this week to compete in the first ever Freeride World Tour Qualifier. Luckily I was able to be prequalified for the event and could skip the open event the day before. I would like to give a big shout out to Willie Schnieder for winning the open event and shredding heavy all weekend. I was able to sneak my way all the way to finals, but had a hard time staying on my feet in my finals run, and ended up tenth overall. Great skiing was seen from all the competitors, I don't think I have ever seen that many people stick big flat landings in my life.

I took BioBob down to Mammoth, but unfortunately due to the lack of civilization in interior Nevada (a.k.a. the middle of nowhere), we could only fill up on B20 in Salt Lake. Both the truck an myself were not excited to have to put the stinky stuff in the tank, but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

You can see video from the whole event at his site, and results are available at www.freerideworldtour.com. Overall, Mammoth is a pretty cool spot, but I am happy to be back good old Utah.

Tanner is the Best

This post doesn't really have anything to do with our program, but it is worth watching. I have know Tanner, although not closely, since I competed against him in mogul contests at the ripe old age of 12. He shredded back in the day, and currently, at least in my eyes, is the best skier on the planet. Here is a little video from his travels to New Zealand this summer. Watch and learn because if you can do it like he does, you can probably make a pretty good living sliding down the hill. Good work Tanner, you're killing it.

Season Number Two Underway for Sustainable Seasons

Salt Lake City, Utah, December, 19 2007–After a successful launch last year, the Sustainable Seasons project is back for more this ski season. Now that winter has finally hit Utah, they will be bringing you reports from different resorts, showing you what the resorts are doing to be more environmentally friendly, and what you can be doing too.

Biodiesel Bob, the program’s truck and mascot will be traveling all around the west to demonstrate the viability of Biodiesel, even in mountain environments. Look for the truck and the athletes as this year’s IFSA World Tour Stops as Kirkwood and Snowbird, along with other events throughout the west.

Sustainable Seasons is excited to work with groups like Snowbird Resort and KeepUtahCool.com this season. They are also proud to announce their continued partnership with American Freedom Biodiesel, the official fuel supplier of the Sustainable Seasons Project.

One Way to Help, and Save Some Space.

So, I recently moved to house with a mail slot. I didn't think that this would be an issue, I even thought it was nice, I didn't have to go out to get the mail and it was a little safer inside the house. This was all before I realized how much junk mail we get. Our mail slot gets clogged with junk mail, so to help stop the clog and stop the waist of junk mail itself, this is what I did.

It is a little more complex than just calling to put your number on the do not call list, but it is one way to help. First, you can go to www.optoutprescreen.com and register yourself. This will stop unwanted mail from mailers that use the consumer credit service. This is also a great way to stop identity theft, as it can stop all of those credit card pre-approvals. You can keep someone from stealing your name and starting a credit card approval, and you can stop unwanted mail.

Because the season just got underway, we figured we would try and get everyone even a little more excited with some video from last season. One day last February, I was lucky enough to partner up with Justin from Off Trail Productions and Blake and Jordan from Surface Skis to do a little carpool trip up to Alta. Below is what we were able to accomplish. Lets hope we can have a few more days like this one this season.

So to keep it short and sweet, get out there and go shred all you Utah folks. It's still thin, but it's still skiing. We got a chance to go up for Alta's opening day today, and it was rad. Go get after kids, because it's only getting better from here.
